If you are on the search for area rug cleaning, what you are really looking for is general carpet or rug cleaning because any rug or carpet, of any size and material, is cleaned in similar ways.

Is it worth cleaning an area rug by yourself or should you hire someone to do it for you? Because you can get the same exact results (if not better) than the professionals you should only pay for their services if your find their convenience valuable. Otherwise, save your money.

The first thing you should do, before getting the stains off of your carpet, is vacuuming. After that, apply a spot treatment to the stains. If you are not satisfied with the results, you’re going to have to get more intense.

If you browse online websites or your local home improvement shops for carpet or rug cleaners you’re eventually going to stumble upon devices, which look like vacuum cleaners but are actually hot water extractors, which wash out stains. Although manufacturers say that they are steam cleaners, they are anything but, because they use no steam. Regardless, they are still very effective in cleaning your area rugs or rugs/carpets in general.

Something even more intense than a steam cleaner, which you can buy online, is one, which you can rent at your local home improvement store, UHAUL, or grocery store. Although they are also called steam cleaners, they are also hot water extractors, albeit more powerful than the ones you can buy online. They’ll cost your about $20 an hour to rent and look like little refrigerators.

The hot water extractors, which you can rent, are the same ones used by many professional rug or carpet cleaning companies. As such, you can save your money by renting these machines. Some professional carpet cleaners also use steam, which is effective in making a carpet look like new. Regardless, a steam cleaning isn’t going to get you that much better results that a rented or retail hot water extractor.
